Summerfield Stables - Horses in the community

Tonight we took the Coco Toby and Apollo to Solihull Riding club for the clear round showjumping at Solihull Riding Club. George and Apollo went first and jumped one clear round but knocked one pole off on the second round. Toby went next and jumped very well, especially as it was his first time jumping indoors! He stayed very calm and was not at all spooky although he did not jump clear this time. Coco was last and jumped ver well, he had one refusal on his first round but went more confidently on his second round and jumped clear. Well done all!

The photos can be found at www.gr8pictures.co.uk if you go to recent events and then click on 8th September clear round

The youth opportunities fund supplied money for several memberships to Solihull Riding Club for our young volunteers. This means that we can now use the members field for training the horses and also have reduced costs of classes at the club when we enter. Today Alice, Jemma and Daniella took Apollo, Toby and Coco to the club. They were doing well and were jumping both showjumping and cross country fences confidently.

This week our winter hay was harvested and we were out in the field collecting it!In total we brought in 400 bales from the field, with 70 on each load that was six loads! Having brought it in from the field, now all we have to do is pay for it.

Over the last two days we have completed a huge reshuffle of all the horses in order that they can get enough summer grazing. This was an exhausting process for all involved, particularly as some of the horses do not box and so had to be walked miles!

The horses all settled well at their new fields and the ones on long grass looked particularly happy! Many thanks to all involved with the move

Today was an important day for Mini as for the first day after months of training he was harnessed up and pulled his little cart around the field. Amelia has spent a long time long-reining him in preparation for this and it was a delight for everyone to see him happily in his cart. It was particularly special because he had slimmed down and now fitted Muffin's old harness as well as his cart which brought back many happy memories for those who had good times driving Muffin in his cart.

Well done Mini and Amelia

Sorry the blog has not been kept for so long but I have been very busy at university- Lots has been going on at the field but there has not been enough time to write about it.

Today Coco and Bobby went to the cross country at Swallowfields with Nina and Louise, who is on work experience. They were very well behaved and jumped well although they did not jump clear. Justine also had a go jumping Coco at the showjumping and achieved her first clear round!

Well done all

Today was Palm Sunday so some of us went to help bring Tommy the donkey from Umberslade Children's farm to the Church of the Ascension for their Palm Sunday Parade. Tommy was very good even when he went inside the church however he was not too keen to go back into the trailer to go home and needed a bit of persuasion!

We then stopped to help on the farm by feeding the animals and helping with the daily tasks.

First we fed the pigs

Today whilst the saturday morning riding was going on Mini and freddie went to an in-hand show at Swallowfields Equestrian centre with Amelia, Shona and Ellie. Min came first in the Mountain and Moorland with Amelia and Shona came second in the junior handler with Freddie. As it was a qualifier they now get to go to another show in the summer at the royal show ground at Stoneleigh Deer Park. Well done all!

This saturday we were visited by Julie and Lauren and their family who used to own Maisey, Tara and Rosa. They came to visit the ponies in their new home and were particularly pleased to see Tara being ridden as she had always been difficult to ride in her previous home.
