This week our winter hay was harvested and we were out in the field collecting it!In total we brought in 400 bales from the field, with 70 on each load that was six loads! Having brought it in from the field, now all we have to do is pay for it. First of all the tractor shows us how it is done... ...So we had a go Nearly done! Finished! On the way home

Over the last two days we have completed a huge reshuffle of all the horses in order that they can get enough summer grazing. This was an exhausting process for all involved, particularly as some of the horses do not box and so had to be walked miles! The horses all settled well at their new fields and the ones on long grass looked particularly happy! Many thanks to all involved with the move Coco, Apollo and Toby settle in at the chase. Today was an important day for Mini as for the first day after months of training he was harnessed up and pulled his little cart around the field. Amelia has spent a long time long-reining him in preparation for this and it was a delight for everyone to see him happily in his cart. It was particularly special because he had slimmed down and now fitted Muffin's old harness as well as his cart which brought back many happy memories for those who had good times driving Muffin in his cart. Well done Mini and Amelia View from the cart while harnessing up! Harnessed up and ready to go... Out and about with his cart! Sorry the blog has not been kept for so long but I have been very busy at university- Lots has been going on at the field but there has not been enough time to write about it. Today Coco and Bobby went to the cross country at Swallowfields with Nina and Louise, who is on work experience. They were very well behaved and jumped well although they did not jump clear. Justine also had a go jumping Coco at the showjumping and achieved her first clear round! Well done all Ready to start! All finished... Today was Palm Sunday so some of us went to help bring Tommy the donkey from Umberslade Children's farm to the Church of the Ascension for their Palm Sunday Parade. Tommy was very good even when he went inside the church however he was not too keen to go back into the trailer to go home and needed a bit of persuasion! We then stopped to help on the farm by feeding the animals and helping with the daily tasks. First we fed the pigs Surprise! Then we helped put the lambs with their mums and number them Baby and mum Then we took the hay to feed to the horses The horses were a little bigger than ours! Then we had lunch time and play time! Where did Jasmine go? Hanging around After lunch we helped with the chicks And we met Baldy the goose.. Then we helped with sheep herding... It proved to be more difficult than it looked! We finished by haying up for the night. This week we celebrated two of our adult volunteers birthdays. Both were down the field to celebrate on their birthday! It has been a lovely sunny week and it was great to have such nice weather on such a special day. It was a particularly special day for Jack as he was 84 today!! Some of our adult volunteers, from left to right Jack,Ros, Heidi, Justine and Diana. Jack, Heidi, Indy, Justine and Jackie (Heidi's Mum) Indy and Jack. Today whilst the saturday morning riding was going on Mini and freddie went to an in-hand show at Swallowfields Equestrian centre with Amelia, Shona and Ellie. Min came first in the Mountain and Moorland with Amelia and Shona came second in the junior handler with Freddie. As it was a qualifier they now get to go to another show in the summer at the royal show ground at Stoneleigh Deer Park. Well done all! This saturday we were visited by Julie and Lauren and their family who used to own Maisey, Tara and Rosa. They came to visit the ponies in their new home and were particularly pleased to see Tara being ridden as she had always been difficult to ride in her previous home. To do the paperwork for the youth capital fund application some of us met together for a meal and an opportunity to do some paperwork. We wrote the bid together and all had ideas about how we would like to improve our organisation if we had the funding. There was a lot of paperwork to look at and to do as we have to explain what our organisation does and how it benefits young people Then food arrived and we got a bit distracted! Then food and paperwork. Then more paperwork! Then pudding!! Having spent the week with the naughty ponies getting through the electric fence it was decided we needed a battery that they would respect keep then in the right field. The higher voltage is totally safe but a bit unpleasant like a static shock but it is necessary that horses respect the fence to keep them safe as the horses are kept in separate fields so the bigger ones do not harm the smaller ones. To buy the necessary equipment we went for a drive to Countrywide, without a map and not really knowing where we were going we were lucky to find it. When we did arrive after only a slight wrong turn we managed to find what we wanted. Hopefully in the next few weeks the horses will be better behaved and respect the fence. Clothes are a little too big me thinks! Jasmines new pet? |
