Going to shows
Taking young people to shows is a huge time commitment for the staff and volunteers at the stables and so it is something we like to reserve for our most helpful volunteers. Please bear in mind that going to external shows is in huge demand and yet we can only take a limited number of riders to each show.
Minimum requirements
You must be a regular helper at the stables who takes a full part in horse care and helping other younger riders
You must have participated in similar classes at our home field
You must have your own hat (Other items you may be able to borrow)
You must be available to help prepare the horse and its tack before the show
You must be down early on the day of the show
You must be down the day after the show at least to muck out and put the equipment from the show away (unless the next day is a school day)
You must have the money to pay for your class
Other suggestions (people who will get priority)
Helping out regularly in the school holidays- not just on the days of specified activities
You are a reliable helper- you let us know in advance when you will be able to help and you can be relied upon to turn up
Helping to lunge and school horses
Ensure you are confident with a variety of horses and ponies - if you are only confident with one or two it is unlikely you would be able to come to shows very often as we rotate the horses we take
Ensure that you are confident in preparing horses to load, loading and unloading.
You have a positive outlook to training horses and do not get wound up if things do not go to plan on the day
Equipment
For a normal showjumping or dressage class you will need:
Hat
Body protector
Entry Money
Tie
White shirt
Show Jacket (Black or Blue)
Cream Jodhpurs
Jodhpur Boots or long Boots
HAIRNET
Whip
A Horse or Pony!
Other classes may have different requirements.
FOR ALL SHOWS PLEASE BRING A WATERPROOF COAT!!
