Summerfield Stables has a large number of volunteers and we offer training for BHS exams for those who regularly dedicate their time to helpng the horses at the stables.

Duke of Edinburgh Volunteering, work experience and college placements

We offer opportunities for all of these and so if you would like further information please contact us.

Children Under 12

For children under 12 who wish to work towards volunteering we would encourage them to develop their skills in one of our pony care sessions. This may be alongside their riding lessons or in one of our care only sessions.

We have frequent requests for parents to volunteer with young children but this is not possible due to the high level of supervision that children need. Please consider volunteering as an adult and also booking your child for lessons so they can learn the required skills to keep themselves safe around horses

Teenagers 12 and older

Teenagers 12 and over who wish to volunteer can become part of our skills development pathway. Young people will need to attend Stable management lessons until BHS Stage 1 or equivalent is achieved.

Once stage 1 or equivalent is achieved they can then sign up to skills development sessions
Weekly sessions with extra during the holidays designed to help young people to progress towards their BHS Stage 2 & 3.

Young people who have previous experience who wish to join this program can be have an assessment to see if they have the skills and maturity necessary and after a trial period they would be eligible to join the program.

Monthly volunteering
We require a team of volunteers once a month to help with field maintenance and other important jobs. We will advertise this on Facebook and Instagram.
