Twiggy (Apple trees twiglet)
History
Twiggy was home bred by a friend of ours but proved to be unsuitable for her as she was a bit too strongwilled. She can be difficult to handle and has a bit of an unsettled start as she has not been in frequent work. Although she appears to be very independent Twiggy can get a bit anxious when she is seperated from her friends. Although generally well mannered when ridden she can be a bit aloof with people and forgets her manners sometimes and may barge or bite.
Current Schooling
Twiggy has not done much ridden work since she has been with us but instead the emphasis has been on handling her and doing in hand work such as lunging. Most of Twiggys problems are caused by her being immature and so teaching her good manners and giving her time to mature should help her become a better mannered riding horse.
Plans for the future
Twiggy is a relaxed and quite lazy horse so we are hoping that in the near future she will become a good horse for our more experienced riders and hopefully as she gets older and more experienced she will be suitable for beginners.
Schooling update 2013
Twiggy pulled a muscle in her shoulder when she came to the home field and has bee unsound for a few months. After a visit from the chiropractor who recommended lots of long-reigning to help her to muscle up she is finally coming back into ridden work. She is currently being ridden in walk and trot as well as having a lot of in hand work.
Schooling Update 2014
Twiggy is now sound and is back in work. She loves working and now is joining in with group lessons with adults and older teenagers. She is not jumping yet due to last years lameness we are taking things steadily but she is doing really well in walk, trot, canter and over poles. The best part is that twiggy loves her work and is much more content now she is working so she is much friendlier with people and is much easier to handle!
