Today we had a beautiful sunny morning and we were planning to go to solihull riding club in the evening. However the small shower turned to sleet and snow so we were unable to go. All the horses had to be put in as they were cold and the snow was balling up in their hooves.

Today was a busy day which started with Buster hacking out on his own with Jemma riding him and George walking alongside. He was very good as it was raining and there were lots of people with umbrellas. The Sunday riders rode in the field and Coco settled in well with gentle work with the other horses (only a little walk and trot). He was starting to become a little more supple with this gradual work and is happy to be joining in. Toby is not yet working off the lunge so was not able to join in today but should have more individual attention in the week. In the afternoon Twiggy arrived at the chase. She settled quickly after pulling faces over the fence at Mo and Apollo. As it started to get dark they seemed very happy so were left to get to know each other. Today Coco and Toby arrived at the home field. They settled in quickly out in the field and were soon grazing after having a look at Freddie and Mini over the fence. When it was time to come in Coco was very settled but Toby enjoyed kicking the door of his stable for attention and only stopped when he couldnt see anybody about. Both have had a break from work so need bringing back into work steadily although Toby will need totally reschooling as he can be naughty! Jemma, Nina and George went to see the final night of the Horse of the Year Show at the NEC. It was a brilliant night out and the display was very good. The highlights of the night were the Household Cavalry and the Pony Club games. Also the Supreme Pony Champion was rally something special as it was only a five year old and was unphazed by the whole thing. Next year we hope to arrange a large group to go and see this so anyone who would like to go should probably Today was a lucky day for Alice and Jasmine as their school was shut due to a water leak and will be shut for the rest of the week. This meant we could set off for the clear round jumping a lot earlier and we were the first ones to book in. We took Bess and Maisey and we only entered in the smallest jumping 1'6''-1-9'' so that we could leave early. Jasmine rode Maisey, Jem and Alice did a clear round each on Bess. They each got a rosette and we left early and were home by about eight o'clock! Well done everyone and a special thank you to everyone who helped and particularly to Ros for driving the horse trailer and Alice's Mum for giving lifts. Saturday was Amelias birthday so a sleepover with pizza was organised in the caravan. There was lots of junk food(and some healthy food) and DVD's to watch.Everyone managed to get to bed at a reasonable time and also managed to get up in the morning. Unfortunately although Nina and Jemma managed to hack out on Mo and Apollo from the chase it was too wet for those at the home field to ride. We practiced some stable management questions and then went to watch the BSJA jumping at Solihull club and had some nice hot food from the cafe there for lunch. |
GeorgeI am the Chair of the Committee that runs Summerfield Stables. I like helping out with the horses as much as I can but I find it hard to find the time. Archives
